Carotid and Supra-Aortic Branches – Open Vascular Surgery on a Vascular Model
Tuesday, 23 June 2026
Time: 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Scientific Director: Alexander Hyhlik-Dürr (Augsburg)
Speakers: Carola Hoffmann-Wieker (Speyer), Axel Stübinger (Nuremberg)
Advances in endovascular techniques are making it increasingly difficult to provide practical training for assistant doctors in "traditional open surgery". Added to this is the "commercialisation of surgery" with enormous time pressure in the operating theatre.
The aim of the open surgery courses is therefore to teach the basics of open vascular surgery using models, so that students already have a certain level of confidence when they perform their first "real-life operations". The courses focus on practical exercises using models, with theory taught only to the extent necessary to understand the underlying surgical technique. Colleagues in their 4th to 6th year of further training will benefit most from this course.
